10 signs you're becoming an actual 'adult.'

  • You actually have to pay bills now
    • Car payments, utilities, etc. There's no more mooching off of mom and dad. And the funny thing is, we don't even realize the importance of these bills until we have to pay them ourselves. So turn that light off!
  • Finding a job can be difficult with experience
    • You get up, happy to find a job with your new degree, but no body wants to hire you because you have no experience. Then the question: How do you get experience if no one wants to hire you in the first place?
  • You don't panic when you can't find your mom in the store
    • Remember when we were kids and our parents wandered away from us in the store and told us they'll be right back, but they never did? Well I still kind of panic sometimes. It's just an odd feeling for your mom or dad to be completely gone from the things you used to do together.
  • You pay for your own gas
    • You realize the importance of gas. It's not just gas. It takes you from point A to point B - and sometimes it can be extremely expensive. This is also something you never probably realized or just taken advantage of. Now, you make sure your friends drop a little for gas if they're asking for a ride.
  • You file taxes
    • TurboTax saves the day! I hated doing mine, last year was the first year I had to do it, and I was so confused about it. What does a W2 stand for in the first place anyways?! They don't teach us that in high school.
  • You've made different, more mature friends that have more things in common
    • I've noticed that the more I've asked around amongst my former high school friends, is that they don't talk to their friends or even rarely talk to their best friends anymore. Everyone branches off to different paths in their life after high school, and that's a good thing. Hopefully you'll soon find your 'adult' niche and have the right type of friends.
  • You have to learn how to cook
    • If you haven't learned how to cook because mom and dad always provided for you, it's time to learn. Cook, bake, anything! or you'll starve. Living off of microwavables, no matter how fast and easy they are, is not healthy.
  • You think it's stupid everyone has cliques in high school
    • When you see high school kids, you sometimes compare them to your old high school friends. Everyone had their own little 'clique' or tight-knit group of friends that they always hung out with. Now, it's not necessarily like that, and we may even think it was silly to have been with the same people everyday throughout high school.
  • Image change
    • You finally changed your look up! A new look can show a new you is emerging. From changing your hairstyle to a more mature and trendier wardrobe shows you're growing in one way.
  • Traveling is becoming more of a reality than before
    • We used to imagine ourselves going to places like Bali or Cabo or something. Now that we are on the cusp of becoming an adult (or we already are) we have the opportunity and we have more funds than we did in high school to actually make traveling a reality. It's time to explore the world!

To sum things up: You have no idea what you're doing, and you're just going with the flow.
